Training of the trainers meeting at ODABA, Odessa, Ukraine (6-10 July, 2015)

SEHUD consortium meeting in Odessa proved to be efficient and fruitful. WP2: During meeting a whole range of activities were devoted to USD self-developing knowledge base (SDKB): Module 1 SDKB "City as an open system" was enriched by content and visual materials for the CU "City territories and planning structure" reflected in the presentation "Odessa general planning" delivered by  Alexander Golovanov - Chief architect of Odessa; for the CUs "City types and functions" and "Resources of city development" reflected in the presentation "Odessa: port and resort" delivered by  Marat Casimov - deputy head of Chief architect of Odessa; Module 2 SDKB "Heritage protection for saving city identity" was enriched by content and visual materials for the CUs "History of city foundation and development", "Social and cultural bases of city development" reflected in presentations of Odessa by ODABA experts and its heritage by Volodimir Meshcheriacov (Chief of the cultural heritage protection department of Odessa  regional state administration) as well as in presentations of cities and towns of Belgorod-Dnestrovskiy area by Oleg Popov;  for the CU "Renovation and revalorization of architectural objects" reflected in presentations of Ackerman fortress and SHABO industrial complex by UA experts.

Meeting in the office of Chief architect of Odessa turned into fruitful discussion that gave understanding of issues connected with Module 3 "Economics, policy, law regulations in city development" and reflected in CU "Principles of administrative decisions in city development".

Visit to ODABA Institute of Architecture and Art presented by its director Valeriy Ureniov and head of UD department Olga Savitskaya was valuable for developing methodology of architectural education on the basis of both traditional and modern approaches and technologies in city development. The work of the Institute was highly estimated by EU partners.

WP3: ODABA team presented multimedia class that was equipped and developed within SEHUD project. Students demonstrated their e-learning competences in using innovative technologies for developing USD projects within pilot phase. They participated in online workshops and conferences. Work at multimedia class has become students' habitual activity. Using advanced technologies they developed exhibition of world's leading architects works, exposition of students reflection of EU visits (drawings, photos, emotional impressions). ODABA department of modeling is actively developing  the virtual models with their students on the basis of e-tools acquired within SEHUD project. UZA partners invested into USD self-developing knowledge base  5 virtual lectures and presentations concerning target issues of the training course. During meeting in ODABA IT-expert Vlad Kamynin in collaboration with Professor John Barber who is English native speaker has recorded 7 texts for control for e-learning platform.

WP4: ODABA students presented 5 projects to SEHUD international jury including: Sebastian Macmillan and John Barber (Cambridge University); Carmen Diez and Javier Monclus (Saragossa University), John Kiousopoulos (Athens University), Rositsa Nikiforova (Varna University), Anna Antao and Maria Joao (Guarda University). There were presented the following projects: 1. City seaside park.2. Renovation of coastal hills along with park development with its borders from "Arcadia" to "Langeron" beach (by Tereshchenko Yu., Holotsvan A.).3. Recreation complex in the village Zatoka in Odessa region (by Krasnoslobotseva O.).4. Historical and cultural center "Loustdorff" in structure of the Odessa coastal zone.5. In terms of SEHUD project there was held the competition of line park development according to educational, methodical and scientific work of academy.

As a hole ODABA students projects were highly estimated by EU experts. Discussion generalizing students projects was dealt with necessity to develop students presentation skills as well as competence in economics and engineering for more realistic approach to solving USD problems.

WP6: Most of the events at ODABA was devoted to the dissemination of the results received within SEHUD project. ODABA rector prof. Anatoliy Kovrov presented university achievements in the field of ODABA international collaboration. Director of the ODABA Institute of Architecture and Arts prof. Valeriy Ureniov and head of UD department prof. Olga Savitskaya presented activities of the departments and laboratories that were developed on the basis of SEHUD budget. Multimedia class enriched ODABA e-training resources; USD curriculum and course package developed ODABA training resources; students projects developed within SEHUD pilot phase reflected methodology that was used by ODABA professors on the basis of SEHUD 'training of trainers' program. Students projects and reports of their training at EU universities were developed in standardized format. Materials for dissemination were presented in the format of presentations and posters.

WP7: Development of bilateral agreements between SEHUD consortium partners has become the topic for detailed discussion within ODABA meeting. KNUCEA and UZA prepared templates for bilateral agreements and proposed to use them or any other format in case if it is approved by participating universities. It was agreed to fill special matrix of prospective collaboration by every partners with proposals for collaborative activities from every university and corresponding marks of partners that are interested in collaboration in the indicated field. This matrix is planned to serve as a resource for concretizing bilateral agreements. As an example matrix were filled in by KNUCEA-IDB, KNUCEA-UZA, KNUCEA-IPG prospective collaborative activities.

WP8: During ODABA visit there were discussed managerial issues:

  1. Steering  committee meeting with participation of UCAM (P2): J.Barber, UZA(P3): J.Monclus, TEI-A (P5): J.Kiousopoulos, IPG (P7): A.Antao, VFU(P8): R.Nikiforova, KNUCEA (P10): T.Sergeyeva, PSACEA (P11): B.Dikarev, ODABA (P14): O.Popov took place.The steering group expressed their sympathy and hope for quick recovery to Professor Maria-Grazia Folli, coordinator of the SEHUD project. They reported  that meeting in Odessa has been efficient and proved that SEHUD consortium has successfully fulfilled  obligations and produced 90-100% of project deliverables (in accordance with plan of WPs development).  At the same time in view of the final stage of the SEHUD project, members of the steering group expressed their anxiety concerning the lack of balance between the fulfilled activities and the budget received from POLIMI as project coordinator. Since there is not enough time for transferring the due budget to the consortium steering group proposed a contingency plan in order to solve the problem. They proposed the POLIMI financial manager to write a concrete report concerning every member of consortium in accordance with the following deadlines: concrete reasons by POLIMI if transfer was not sent (deadline 20 July); responses to POLIMI remarks to correct mistakes (deadline 30 July 2015); 2nd transfer of budget by POLIMI (deadline 3 August 2015). The steering group urgently requested the restoration of the balance between the deliverables produced (90-100%) and the budget received. They expressed their wish to provide whatever assistance  they can to achieve this goal, and to avoid having to ask the Brussels authorities for their help in this matter.
  2. UA coordinators discussed ways of USD CU publications;
  3. Program of Varna meeting was discussed with prof. R. Nikiforova.
